CopyBackground. Currently, the constant variability of the environment leads to risks that can have both positive and negative effects on production processes within the framework of professional activities. In such conditions, the training of specialists in the field of engineering should take into account not only the formation of professional competencies presented in educational standards, but also the formation of skills to identify, analyze and manage risks.
Objective. The research is aimed at analyzing approaches to the use of a risk-based approach in the process of training engineers.
Methods. The research methods used were general scientific level methods (hypothetical-deductive analysis, specification and generalization) and specific scientific level methods (systematization and generalization of concepts, content analysis). The selection of articles for analysis was carried out according to the citation criteria.
Results. The author provides a definition of a risk-oriented approach in the professional development of future engineers, highlights its structure, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of using this approach in training.
Conclusions. The risk-oriented approach has both advantages and disadvantages and plays an important role in the professional development of engineers, allowing to promote the formation of a specialist who obtains not only the necessary technical knowledge, but also risk management competence. Risk management competence helps to make thoughtful decisions aimed at minimizing the impact of risk scenarios on production processes and the specialist’s work activity.
