Language corpora as a means to form the research competencies of would-be teachers

Abstract

The principal objective of the paper is to describe the technology of using corpus data to train would-be teachers. The efficiency of this technology in the development of research competencies is shown.

In addition to the analysis of scientific literature, the distributional analysis that implies consideration of the language units in relation to their contextual environments and some methods of quantitative linguistics were used; the distributional analysis and the methods of quantitative linguistics were treated as learning tools. In order to evaluate the results content analysis was used.

The technology of using corpus data to train would-be teachers has been developed and successfully tested. The scientific novelty of the work is determined by the fact that it describes the technology of using corpus linguistics in the practice of teaching academic speech.
