CopyBackground. The imbalance in the development of modern civilization, including due to the discrepancy between its technological and cultural levels, requires a change in behavioral patterns as well as in the ideological position of engineering and technical personnel, which is facilitated by the formation of a high-level research culture among them. However, at present, the issues of the research culture development in future engineers are not given sufficient attention in the scientific literature. In addition, the development of research culture in the process of professional training for engineering personnel is still fragmented.
Objective. The purpose of the research is to reveal the content, as well as to highlight the essential aspects of the research culture in the future engineer.
Methods. The leading research methods included the analysis of scientific literature and approaches to understanding research culture, formalization of definitions, generalization, interpretation, formalization and synthesis of the content of research culture.
Results. The features of engineering activity and the environment in which it is implemented, as well as the requirements for a professional engineer at the present stage of the societal development, have been identified. The essence and content of the research culture of the future engineer are revealed and the determinants that directly influence its formation are identified. They include the personal characteristics of the individual, the corporate culture of the higher educational institution and its innovative, educational and information environment, industry (national) research culture.
Conclusions. The research culture of a future engineer is a complex dynamic formation, relying on the consciousness of the individual, providing the need for creative transformative engineering activity, personal qualities and experience, as well as acquired cultural capital. It is an integral aspect of the professional development of a future engineer, providing a cognitive basis and value-motivational attitudes for professional self-realization, engineering creativity, solving complex engineering tasks and technical problems based on scientific methods and the priority of sustainable development in the technosphere.
